Panthers Blitzed by Soaring Eagles

 Elmira, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team traveled to Elmira on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Eagles 7-1.

The Panthers found themselves trailing early as Elmira was able to score twice on their first two shots on goal within the opening 10 minutes. They continued their attack into the first half and added a third goal to their lead in the 17th minute. 

Pitt-Bradford cut into the lead with a goal with just over 10 minutes to go in the 1st. After a foul near the Panthers' own 18-yard box, Makartnee Mortimer played a long pass on the resulting free kick. Riley Stowe controlled the long ball and laid a pass off to Delaney Stowe before making a run behind the defense. Delaney sent a pass through the defensive line which Riley ran onto and placed a one-touch finish into the net. The goal was Riley's second of the season. Delaney picked up her first assist.

After the restart, the Panthers once again got off to a slow start, as the Soaring Eagles added two more goals within the first 5 minutes of play. a quarter of an hour later, Elmira struck two more times in quick succession, making the score 7-1. Alyssa Anderson made two more saves over the final 25 minutes of play to keep the deficit at 6.

Riley Stowe scored her team-leading 2nd goal of the season on the Panthers' only shot of the game. Alyssa Andersen made 7 saves in the loss.

The Panthers fell to 0-6 on the season after the loss. They will begin their conference schedule with their next game, as they take on the defending AMCC champions, Pitt-Greensburg. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24th at Parkway Field in Bradford.
