Panthers Outpaced by Broncos in Season Opener

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's Soccer team kicked off their season on Saturday Afternoon, falling to SUNY Delhi 6-1.

The Panthers survived an early barrage of attacks from the Broncos as Alyssa Andersen made three early stops to keep the game scoreless. Ruley Stowe had the first chance of the game for the Panthers in the 17th minute. She took control of a loose ball at the top of the 18 and took a right-footed shot that seemed to be heading for the top corner when it was parried away by the SUNY Delhi keeper for a corner. The Broncos were able to strike first in the 26th minute, when they took advantage of a miscommunication at the back, as Anderson was trapped out of the box without the ball and they were able to slide in a shot into the open goal. They doubled their lead 6 minutes later when they curled a free kick into the top corner from the right wing.

The Panthers were able to keep the Broncos at bay for the remainder of the first half but struggled to pick the pace back up after the break. The Broncos added a third goal 3 minutes into the half, and then added two more in a span of 56 seconds in the 59th minute. They added their sixth and final goal in the 76th minute.

Pitt-Bradford was able to pull a goal back in the 82nd. Riley Stowe was able to draw a free kick as she was fouled in the center circle. Chloe Shaw took the free kick and played a looping ball into the opponent's box. Riley Stowe was able to get behind the defense, control the pass, and slide a right-footed shot into the far corner to open up the Panthers' tally on the year.

Riley Stowe scored the lone Panther goal in the game, scoring in the 82nd minute. It was the first of her career. She had two shots on goal, while Makartnee Mortimer added another. Alyssa Andersen made 9 saves in the loss.

The Panthers fall to 0-1 with the loss. They return to action on Wednesday, September 6th, when they travel to Buffalo State. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
