Panthers Score First, Lose to Mounties 4-2

Bradford, PA. -- The University of Pittsburg at Bradford women's soccer team took an early 1-0 lead against AMCC for Mount Aloysius, but four unanswered scores from the Mounties led to a 4-2 defeat.

After 15 minutes of play that saw neither team carve out a good chance, the Panthers were able to open the scoring in the 17th minute. Mia Camps took possession of the ball in the Mountie half and took a shot that was blocked by a defender. It bounced right back to Camps who released another high shot that arced over the Mount Aloysius goalkeeper and into the net. The score was the first of the season and career for Camps. The Panthers were unable to hold off the Mounties for long, as the visitors were able to tie the score with a goal of their own in the 25th. Emily Goetz was able to put a shot on goal in the 28th minute, but it was the last time either team would take a shot in the half.

Mount Aloysius came out of the halftime break pressing and took advantage of an early Panther turnover to take the lead just 53 seconds into the 2nd half. The visitors continued their attack on the Panther goal after taking the lead, adding two more goals in the 55th and 58th minutes. After the Mounties went up 4-1, the Panthers were able to slow the attack and carve out a few chances of their own. Alannah Allen forced a save in the 81st minute before Emily Goetz was able to score in the 88th to cut the lead to two. After the Mounties were unable to properly clear a free kick, Emily Goetz took possession of the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and was able to hit a chip shot that beat the out-of-position goalkeeper to put the Panthers down 4-2.

Mia Camps scored her first career goal in the game, it was her only shot of the contest. Emily Goetz opened her 2022 account with the 88th-minute strike. It was her 4th career goal. She had 3 shots in the game, putting 2 on target. Sadie Wood made 3 saves in the loss.

The Panthers fall to 0-10 on the season with an 0-2 record in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Tuesday, October 11th as they will host Hilbert at 4:00 p.m.
