Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team opened their season on Thursday Afternoon, falling 8-1 to Buffalo State.

The Panthers pressured the Bengals early, as they earned the game's first corner kick, but saw a quick counterattack from Buffalo State result in the opening goal. The Bengals continued to pressure after the opening tally, but Sadie Wood made a double save on a breakaway to keep the deficit at one. She nearly pulled off another miraculous save a few minutes later, but she was unable to get ahold of the rebound on the first shot and saw the resulting effort go into the net. The Bengals added a third goal on another counter after a save on a Delaynie Moore free kick.

Pitt-Bradford was able to pull one back in the 39th minute. Riley Stowe gained possession near the midfield and dribbled past the defensive line, she held off the Buffalo State defense and was taken down in the box, resulting in a penalty. Her sister Delaney stepped up and deposited her shot into the corner of the net to cut the lead to 2. The Panthers were unable to maintain the momentum, however, as Buffalo State was able to score with just seconds left in the half to restore their 3-goal lead.

After the break, Wood and the Panthers were able to hold the deficit at 4-1 for the first half hour of play before the Bengals tacked on in the 77th minute. Buffalo State added two more over the next ten minutes against a fatigued Pitt-Bradford defense before the Panthers had their best opportunity of the half. With under 3 minutes to go, Alannah Allen was able to run onto a pass outside the 18 yard-box, she unleashed a high shot that beat the Buffalo State keeper, but clanged off of the crossbar. The Bengals immediately responded, quickly moving downfield to score their 8th of the game.

Riley Stowe scored the lone Panther goal of the game, her 4th career tally. Delaynie Moore also registered a shot on goal and Alannah Allen hit the woodwork. Sadie Wood made 13 saves in the game.

The Panthers fall to 0-1 with the loss. They will be back in action next Tuesday, September 6th when they travel to Thiel for a non-conference matchup.
