2nd Half Blitz leads to Women's Soccer Loss at Cazenovia

Cazenovia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford struggled to play their second game in as many days as their host, Cazenovia, scored 3 goals in 4 minutes leading to a 4-1 Pitt-Bradford loss.

The Panthers fell behind early in the game again, allowing the Wildcats to open the scoring just 6 minutes into the game. Cazenovia was able to keep solid pressure on the Panthers, but Pitt-Bradford was able to keep the deficit at one as Cazenovia was called offsides three times and Emily Bethel made three early saves.

The Panthers' defensive effort paid off in the 30th minute, as they were able to break away and score their first goal of the season. Katie Anderton took control of the ball near midfield and hit a high arcing pass over the Cazenovia defensive line. Cassidy King was able to run onto it, touch it ahead of the defenders and slide a shot to the keeper's right to tie the game at 1. The goal was the second of King's career, as she had previously scored in the Panthers' 2019 victory over St. Vincent.

Pitt Bradford was able to hold the Wildcats off the scoresheet for the remainder of the first half but ran into trouble 10 minutes after the break. Cazenovia struck for 3 goals in a span of 3 minutes and 26 seconds to take the lead and put the game out of reach.

The Panthers finished the game with 3 shots, as King took two of them and freshman Carolelyn LaPrairie took the other. Emily Bethel made 8 saves in the contest. She was replaced for the final 7 minutes of the game by Sadie Wood, who made two saves in the closing stages.

The Panthers are now 0-2 on the season. They will return home searching for their first victory of the 2021 season. Their next game will be at the Kessel Athletic Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 5th, as they will host the Thiel Tomcats at 4:00 p.m.
