Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team lost their final game of the season to Medaille 3-2 in overtime.
The Panthers controlled the majority of the chances in the first half as they outshot the Mavericks 12-5. The Mavericks were able to win 4 corner kicks to just 2 for the Panthers. Despite the offensive chances for each team, neither could manage to score as the first half finished 0-0. Medaille's Shae Messemer made 5 saves in the half and Emiy Bethel made 2 for the Panthers. Kiley Tuttle paced the Panther offense, as she took 5 shots in the half.
The Mavericks made the breakthrough in the second half a little over 10 minutes in, when Kristen Kline had a long dribbling run behind the defense that saw here make one cut inside the center back and fire to the upper corner on the near post. Pitt-Bradford responded with a goal of their own 7 minutes later. Tuttle broke behind the defense and fired a shot off the near post that deflected back towards the field of play. Emily Royea met the ball and slotted a shot into the corner to tie the game. She had a chance to put the panthers in the lead a minute later when she got under a one time attempt from inside the box and saw her shot go ovre the net. Royea wasnt finished as she was able to score in the 73rd minute to give the Panthers a second half lead. She drilled a long shot from the right corner of the 18-yard box that flew into the left side netting for her second of the game. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the lead did not last long as Kline found her way behind the defense yet again and finished past the goal keeper to tie the game. With time winding down in the match, the Panthers had one more chance to win the game in regulation. After a foul at the top of the box, Emily Goetz fired a shot from the resulting free kick that just missed the top corner of the goal.
In overtime, Taylor Sutryk was able to get two shots off in the early going, but another long ball put Kline behind the defense. Kline ran onto the throughball and finished a low shot to win the game.
The Panthers finished they game with 29 shots recorded, putting 8 of them on frame. Sutryk finished with 10 shots and Tuttle took 7. Emily Bethel made 4 saves on 5 shots through the first 65 minutes of play. She was replaced by Sadie Wood who made 2 saves on 4 shots.
The young Panther team which contained just 1 senior, finish their season with a 4-14 record overall and a 2-8 record in AMCC play. Madison Feeser finishes her career with 1 goal after splitting time as a goalkeeper and forward.
