Buffalo, NY -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team used a four goal second half to defeat Hilbert College 5-1 on Thursday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for October 1st, but was postponed and forced to restart due to lightning in the area. This game was played at Dobson Field in Buffalo, NY, home of another conference rival D'Youville College, due to weather and field conditions.
Both teams remained close throught the first half of the game, as they each scored one goal just over two minutes apart. In the 21st minute, Taylor Sutryk was able to score her 5th goal of the season to put the Panthers in front. The Hawks responded to the goal quickly as Grace Zabawa equalized in the 23rd. The remainder of the half remained uneventful as the next shot on goal for either team came in the 44th minute of play. Pitt-Bradford outshot Hilbert 7-4 in the half, with the shots on target tallying 4-2 in favor of the Panthers.
Pitt-Bradford came out of the halftime break quickly as they scored just over three minutes into the 2nd. Emily Goetz recieved a pass from Sutryk and unleashed a left footed shot past the goalkeeper to put the Panthers back in front. The goal was also the freshman's first in a Panther uniform. Goetz struck again in the 71st minute. She hit a free kick that dipped over the wall and into the left side of the goal for her second of the game. Four minutes later, Sutryk would also add her brace. She took a shot from the left side of the box that finished in the right side netting to make it 4-1. Madi Feeser scored the fifth and final goal off of a corner kick. Pitt-Bradford dominated play in the second half as they racked up 14 shots to only 1 for the Hawks.
Goetz led the Panthers with 8 shots, putting 5 of them on goal. Sutryk tallied 6 shots, 5 on goal, while scoring two and picking up an assist. Emily Bethel made 1 save on the way to her second win of the season.
With the win, the Panthers push their record to 4-10 on the season with an AMCC conference record of 2-4. They currently are in 8th place, only 1 game out of a playoff spot. They will travel to Altoona, Pa. this weekend for a crucial match against 7th place Penn State Altoona.
