Panthers Topped By Gators In Home Opener

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The Allegheny Gators visited the Kessel Athletics Complex Thursday afternoon and defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team, 4-1, in the Panthers' home opener.

With the outcome, Pitt-Bradford moves to 1-3 on the season and Allegheny improves to 2-0-1.

The Gators struck first and took an early 1-0 lead.

But after a foul in the Allegheny box, Pitt-Bradford was awarded a penalty kick.

Emily Royea stepped in and hammered it home, tying the game at 1-1.

Allegheny would get one more before the break and take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Two more Gator goals in the second half would make up all the scoring for the final 45 minutes and Allegheny would go onto take the 4-1 win.

The Gators outshot the Panthers, 18-7.

Taylor Sutryk led Pitt-Bradford with three shots while Kaylin KavanaghMegan RoseCassidy Fenner and Royea fired a shot apiece.

Royea, Fenner and Kavanagh each put a shot on goal.

Emily Bethel played all 90 minutes in goal and made nine saves.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will head to Alfred on Saturday for a 7 p.m. road test.
