Panthers Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener To SUNY ESF

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team kicked off its 2019 campaign with a 3-0 defeat against SUNY ESF at Cazenovia Friday afternoon.

Friday's contest was the first of the season for both squads.

SUNY ESF jumped on the board quickly, scoring its first goal of the game just three minutes into the contest.

Its second came shortly before halftime, and the Mighty Oaks took a 2-0 advantage into the break.

During the first half, Pitt-Bradford's Gianna Granito, Emily Goetz and Taylor Sutryk each put shots on goal that were stopped by the ESF keeper.

The two teams held tough in the early minutes of the second half until goal number three for ESF came in the 77th minute.

Sutryk led the team with a pair of total shots while Granito, Goetz and Raven Magrino fired a shot apiece.

Panther goalkeeper Emily Bethel played all 90 minutes and saved nine shots on goal.

Pitt-Bradford will have a quick turnaround as it takes on the host Cazenovia tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
