Shade's Penalty Kick, Panthers Defense Combine For 1-0 Win At Medaille

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team picked up a crucial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory Wednesday at Medaille.

Courtney Shade scored her 11th goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 20th minute and that's all Pitt-Bradford would need as the defense held on for the 1-0 victory.

With the win, Pitt-Bradford moves to 3-4-1 in AMCC action and 4-10-1 overall, remaining in the conference playoff picture.

"We needed this win to keep our playoff hopes alive and we got it done," Head Coach Melissa Lincoln said. "Courtney has done a nice job finishing every penalty kick she's taken this season and we needed it today."

The Panthers controlled the offensive tempo for most of the game, outshooting Medaille 24-7.

Of Pitt-Bradford's 24 shots, 16 went on net, forcing Medaille's keeper, Melyssa Olmstead, to make 15 saves.

Grace Dadzaa and Meghan Stuck led the way for the Panthers with six shot attempts apiece. Five of Dadzaa's shots and three of Stuck's went on goal.

Shade, Julie Barton and Jade Adams each fired a pair of shots on goal. Jasmine Adams and Kahlee Bowen put a single shot on net apiece.

The second half was all Panthers, as Medaille did not record one single shot in the period.

In total, the Panthers earned seven corner kick chances and held Medaille to four.

In goal, Emily Bethel stopped all six shots on goal sent her way for the shutout win.

Pitt-Bradford wraps up its AMCC schedule Saturday hosting Pitt-Greensburg at Bradford High School. At 3-4-1, the Panthers hold seventh place in the conference while Pitt-Greensburg is 4-3 in conference play, good for fourth place. Franciscan (4-3) and Penn State-Altoona (3-3-1) are between the two teams, currently holding playoff spots.

Prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. start, the Panthers will honor its seniors for Senior Day.
