BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team captured its fourth-straight win Wednesday evening over Alfred State, winning 3-1 to close out the non-conference slate for 2017.

"I was impressed with our composure today, and I thought we possessed the ball well," Head Coach Melissa Lincoln said. "We did a nice job overall, and I was glad to see Julie put one in the net, as it was the first goal of her career."

The two teams went quiet early on, but Pitt-Bradford broke the silence in the 26th minute as Kaitlyn Williams found Abby Celesky in front of the net, and she buried it to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.

Just five minutes later, Julie Barton corralled a loose ball and broke free of the defense before putting the ball past the charging keeper.

The goal was the first of her career, and in doing so, she gave Pitt-Bradford a 2-0 lead.

The two-goal deficit would hold into the break, but it wouldn't take long for the Panthers to extend their lead once the second half started.

Pitt-Bradford pushed in the offensive zone, and Courtney Shade delivered a cross from the right side of the box toward the left post that sailed over the keeper's head looking to cut it off.

The ball found Williams, who was there at the goal line to push it into the net.

One goal for Alfred State in the final 10 minutes of the game brought the score to 3-1, but the Panthers would hold on and take the victory.

Sarah Dailey made four saves – two in each half – in goal for the Panthers, which all had real chances of finding the back of the net.

But, the Panthers controlled much of the offensive game as they held the Pioneers to just eight total shots, firing 15 of their own.

Pitt-Bradford had seven corner kick opportunities while Alfred State earned none.

With the win, the Panthers finish up with a non-conference record of 5-4 and enter the bulk of their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule with a blemish-free 1-0 conference record after Saturday's win over Penn State-Altoona.

After today's scoring, Celesky and Williams now have three goals on the season, and they share the team lead with Meghan Stuck who also has three.

Pitt-Bradford will be in action next on Friday as they travel to Pitt-Greensburg for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff.
