Jasmine Adams' First Career Goal Sends Panthers Past Elmira

Jasmine Adams scored the go ahead goal in the 61st minute and the Pitt-Bradford women's soccer team hung on to defeat Elmira 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers jumped out to quick lead, striking for the game's first goal in the opening 10 minutes. Abbey Kalin sent a ball over the defense, which Kaitlyn Donnelly tracked down and beat the Elmira goalkeeper for her first score of the season. The Soaring Eagles answered moments later on a play identical to Donnelly's, tying the game at one.

Both teams would have opportunities as the match progressed yet Pitt-Bradford's Sarah Dailey and Elmira's Amanda Banner would stand tall in net. In the 61st minute, Donnelly found Adams in transition, who finished from the top of the box for her first career goal. Adams nearly doubled the Panthers' lead seconds later but her shot rolled just wide of the post.

Dailey turned back a shot in the 66th minute and Lindsay Proulx's attempt for Elmira in the 74th minute went high. The Pitt-Bradford defense posted a shutout the rest of the way as the Soaring Eagles failed to record another shot.

The Panthers outshot Elmira 12-8 and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Dailey registered three saves to earn the win.

"I thought today's effort was a great response to the tough loss in our home opener on Saturday," head coach Marquis Walker said. "We were able to overcome missing two starters from Saturday's game that were out with injuries.

This was a great result to build confidence going into conference play on Saturday."

Pitt-Bradford moves to 3-3-1 on the season and starts league action Saturday at Penn State Altoona.
