Delaney Houtz's Late Goal Lifts Panthers

Delaney Houtz's Late Goal Lifts Panthers

Delaney Houtz scored with six minutes remaining Sunday to life the Pitt-Bradford women's soccer team over Alfred State, 2-1.

The Panthers, who have won two straight, jumped ahead late in the first half on an Alfred State own goal. The score came during a corner kick attempt for Pitt-Bradford. As the teams scrambled for possession in front of the net, the ball deflected off an Alfred State defender and bounced in.

The Pioneers pulled even early in the second half on Michayla Salatel's goal, and the score would remain that way until late in regulation. In the 83rd minute, Kaitlyn Donnelly sent a crossing pass to the middle of the box and Houtz buried it in the far corner for the game-winning tally. For Houtz, it was her first goal of the year, and it came on the heels of consecutive saves by Pitt-Bradford's Sarah Dailey, who finished with seven total stops in net.

Alfred State outshot the Panthers 17-15 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Houtz led the Panthers with four shots, none more important than her last attempt.

Pitt-Bradford improves to 2-1-1 on the season and plays at Houghton Tuesday at 7 p.m.
