Panthers Hand Penn State Behrend First AMCC Loss of the Season

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (6-6, 4-0) women's soccer team handed Penn-State Behrend (6-6, 3-1) its first AMCC loss of the season, capturing a 2-1 victory in front of a big crowd at the Kessel Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Kaitlyn Donnelly and Maggie Boehler scored the goals for the Panthers while reigning AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, Sarah Dailey, had another terrific game, gathering six saves between the posts. Molly Carson and Jamie Christensen were outstanding defensively in the victory.

"The team really stepped up to get the job done today against an excellent opponent," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Mike Idland. "The value of Molly Carson's contribution in her role as the second holding midfielder today really cannot be overstated. She was excellent and truly made the difference in that part of the field for us."

Donnelly gave the Panthers' their first lead of the game with a circus shot from the far corner of the box in the 33rd minute.

Megan Schwartz then tied it up at 1-1 by finishing a cross from Alex Bilka in the 40th minute.

Maggie Boehler broke the 1-1 tie in the 59th minute by deflecting Donnely's shot right into the net, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead with plenty of time left on the clock.

Dailey and the Panthers' defense made numerous big plays down the stretch to preserve the 2-1 lead, and eventually capture the victory over the Lions.

"We're happy to have gotten the three points against a quality team," Idland said. "But, we will get right back to work tomorrow."

The Panthers continue AMCC play Saturday afternoon at 3:15, as they host Mt. Aloysius at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
