Panthers Victorius in 4-3 Thriller with Alfred State

BRADFORD, Pa. - Abby Celesky scored two goals to lead the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team to a thrilling 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Kaitlyn Donnelly and Jamie Christensen also scored for the Panthers, while Meghan Stuck and Delaney Houtz added an assist in the Panther's victory.

"We did well to deal with some adversity today and still come out with the win," said Panthers head coach Mike Idland. "Abby Celesky really stepped up today, which turned out to be huge for us."

The Panthers got on the board first when Kaitlyn Donnelly finished a beautiful pass from the near post in the 25th minute. Celesky then gave Pitt-Bradford a 2-0 lead, collecting a rebound and hammering it past the keeper in the 37th minute. Donnelly had the initial shot that went off of the keeper's hands, creating the scoring chance.

Aldred State answered back just two minutes later, as Haley Vosburg tightened the Panther's lead to 2-1 in the 39th minute.

The match turned into a high-scoring thriller in the second half with the Pioneers scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the half to take a 3-2 lead.

The Alfred State lead didn't last long, as Houtz served a perfect corner kick to the front of the net, allowing Christensen to leap up and head it past the keeper, tying the game at 3-3 in the 50th minute.

Celesky then sealed the deal with her second goal of the game, taking it down the middle of the field and hammering it past the keeper to give the Panthers the 4-3 lead.

Pitt-Bradford hung on for the 4-3 victory, improving to 2-4 on the year. Alfred State fell to 4-2-1 with the loss.

The Panthers held a 16-13 advantage in shots and 6-2 advantage in corners in the victory.

The women's soccer team gets right back in action Sunday at 3 p.m. against St. John Fisher at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
