BRADFORD, Pa. – After three years at the helm of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men’s wrestling team, Head Coach Colin Johnston has accepted the same position at Division II Fairmont State University.

Johnston helped to create the Pitt-Bradford wrestling program and was named the first head coach of the team in December 2017. He spearheaded the transition from club to intercollegiate varsity sport and led the team in competition for the past two seasons.

“Although we are disappointed in Colin’s departure, we are very happy for him and his family,” said Athletic Director Bret Butler. “This is a wonderful opportunity for him to coach closer to family and be part of an NCAA Division II program”

“Colin did a great job starting our program and leaves it in very good shape for our next head coach.  We wish him and the family all the best.”

In his two seasons, Johnston led the Panthers to five dual-meet victories. He also coached two athletes to top-eight finishes at the NCAA regional competition, with Sam Colebert finishing 6th in 2019 and Mitch Dowd taking 8th in 2020.

“I want to thank Bret Butler and the Pitt-Bradford family for the honor of being the first head wrestling coach here,” Johnston said. “This has been a tremendous opportunity for me, and I have made many lasting memories during my time here.”

A nationwide search for Johnston’s successor is set to begin immediately.
