Panther Grapplers Ready to Hit the Mat

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team is ready to begin their 5th intercollegiate season this November, coming off of a campaign that saw them win 4 dual meets, and set program records.

The Panthers were much improved in 2022-23, as they set program marks in dual wins as well as point total in a dual match. They finished 2nd in the AMCC and had two wrestlers earn First Team All-AMCC honors. Freshmen D.J. Slovick and Cameron Carter-Green both won their weight classes at the inaugural AMCC Championship meet. Carter-Green was 17-9 on the season with a 9-4 record in dual meets at the Heavyweight class. He totaled 7 pins, 2 tech falls, and 1 major decision. Slovick led the Panthers with 24 match wins. He had 12 pins, 5 tech falls and 2 major decision victories.

Moving into the new year, the Panthers will be under new leadership, as former assistant coach Terry Schwab has stepped into the head coaching role. Schwab brings decades of experience to the mat, spending 34 years coaching at the high school level at Cameron County and Smethport. He was inducted into the PIAA District IX Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2021.

Schwab will rely on a strong group of returners to lead a promising freshman class heading into this season. Carter-Green and Slovick are back and are joined by Colton Gietler (15-9), Raymond Worsen III (11-15), and Darren Christian (6-14) who will look to build on their performances from last year. Numerous freshmen will impact the program immediately, as 4 or 5 newcomers look to move directly into the starting lineup.

The Panthers begin their season on November 1st, as they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a tri-match. Their first home match of the season will be on Tuesday, November th in KOA Arena at 7:00 p.m.
