Panthers Start Strong, Fall to Saint Vincent

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team brought the Fall portion of their semester to a close on Friday night, as they hosted the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a dual match in KOA Arena. The Panthers won a pair of bouts early but ultimately fell to the Bearcats 39-12.

After dropping the first match at 174, the Panthers were able to jump into the lead, winning a pair of matches at 184 and 197. D.J. Slovick and Colton Gietler each picked up wins by pin, despite wrestling above their normal weight classes. At 184, Slovick pinned his opponent in 1:13. In the next match at 197, Gietler repeated the feat, winning his match by pin in 1:26.

The Panthers were not able to pick up any more team points in the match. Uriah Morris had the tightest match at 125. Tied at 4 in the final minute of the third, Morris was unable to come up with a crucial escape point and ultimately lost by decision 6-4.

After the dual match completed, Jason Tosh was able to pick up his first collegiate victory in an exhibition match. Tosh quickly pinned his opponent in just 30 seconds.

The Panthers wrap up the Fall half of their schedule at 0-4 in dual matches. They will return to action after the holidays with a home match against Jamestown Community College on Tuesday, January 9th. The action is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in KOA Arena.
