Panthers Unable to Overcome Early Deficit, Fall to Lions

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team hosted their first home dual match of the 2023-24 campaign on Tuesday night, falling to Penn State-Behrend 26-13.

The Panthers reached a program milestone in the dual match, as they were able to fill all 10 weight classes in a match for the first time in their five-season history.

Pitt-Bradford got off to a slow start, as Penn State Behrend jumped out to a 20-0 lead. Uriah Morris could not hold on to a 1st-period lead at 125, while Raymond Worsen and Darren Christian fell by 1 point in two tight match-ups.

D.J. Slovick was able to get the Panthers on the board at 174, as he won his match by an 11-3 major decision. Colton Gietler kept the Panthers in the match at 184, as despite holding a lead, he was able to pin his opponent at 4:16 to pick up maximum points.

Penn State-Behrend was able to secure the match win with a victory at 197, but Gavin Thompson was able to win his first home bout as he won at 285 by a 9-5 decision.

The Panthers fell to 0-3 in dual meets after the loss. They will be back in action this weekend, as they head back to Washington, Pa. for the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
