Four Panthers Earn All-AMCC Accolades

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team saw four Panthers garner All-Conference selections in the AMCC's first season with the sport.

Freshmen  D.J. Slovick and Cameron Carter Green made the first team, while freshman Kyle Keefe and senior Nate Powley made the second. Places on the all-conference team were decided by the results at the AMCC Wrestling Championship, held earlier this month.

D.J. Slovick earned his spot on the first team by winning the 165 weight class. Slovick won the championship by pinning his first two opponents at the event, before winning the championship round by tech fall. On the season, Slovick led the Panthers with 24 wins, 12 pins, and 5 tech falls. He was also 10-5 in dual matches with 4 pins, 2 tech falls, and 1 major decision.

Cameron Carter-Green won the heavyweight class at the championships. Ranked #3 in the class, Carter-Green defeated both wrestlers ranked ahead of him, winning a close semi-final match 3-2 and the final 10-3. Carter-Green was 17-9 on the season, leading the panthers with a .654 winning percentage. He also tallied 7 pins, 2 tech falls, and 1 major decision. He also took 2nd place at the Jamestown Open in January.

Kyle Keefe made the second team at 184 pounds. He won his opener at the championships with a pin at 4:32 and then earned a spot in the finals with a 19-1 tech fall victory. Unfortunately, he fell in the finals but had already earned a spot on the all-conference team. For the season, Keefe won 12 matches and tallied 9 pins, 1 tech fall, and 1 major decision.

Senior Nathan Powley brought his career to a close with a 2nd team all-conference honor at 197. The program's leader in total wins pinned his semifinal opponent in 2:55 at the championships before falling in the final. For the season, Powley won 11 matches with 6 pins. He currently has 50 career wins.

"I'm proud of our 3 freshmen who made big strides this season and have really helped our program turn the corner, I expect big things from them moving forward," said head coach Blake Heim. He added, "I'm really happy for Nate Powley. He has been an important member of our program since its transition and its awesome that he earned these honors in his final season."

The Panthers finished 2nd as a team in the AMCC Championships. They have not yet finished their season, as they will wrestle in the NCAA Regional Qualifiers on Friday and Saturday, February 24th and 25th, and if they qualify will wrestle in the NCAA Championships in March.
