Panthers Take 2nd at AMCC Championships, Slovick, Carter-Green Win Weight Classes

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team finished in 2nd place at the inaugural AMCC Championship tournament on Sunday. Two Panthers were able to win their weight classes, while two others took 2nd.

The Panthers collected 66.5 points putting them 10.5 points clear of Hiram in third and 16.5 above Penn State Behrend. Alfred State came away as the winners, as they finished with 136 points. 

DJ Slovick and Cameron Carter-Green came away as weight class champions, as Slovick won at 165 and Carter-Green took the heavyweight class. Slovick breezed through his competition to win his class. He pinned his first opponent of the day in 59 seconds and then advanced to the final round with a pin over the 3rd-ranked wrestler in the class in 2:06. In the final, he wrestled against the 4th-ranked competitor, and easily came away with a 17-1 victory by tech fall. 

Carter-Green started the day ranked number 3 in his class. His first match was a close one as he edged the 2nd-seeded wrestler by decision 3-2. He had an easier time in the final, as he defeated the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class by a 10-3 decision. 

Two other Panthers were able to finish in 2nd in their classes, while they also had one 3rd place finish and one 4th. Kyle Keefe was able to finish in 2nd place at 184. He opened his day with a win by pin at 4:32 and then earned his spot in the final with a 19-1 tech fall victory. In the final he was pinned at 2:24. Nathan Powley also had a 2nd place finish at 197. He pinned his opponent at 2:55 in his opener and then lost in the final by a 5-1 decision.

Henry Cummings battled back from an opening-round loss at 149 to pin his next two opponents in 2:18 and 2:28 to secure a third-place finish. Finally, Colton Geitler won his opener with a pin at 1:01 but after being pinned in 6:18 of his semifinal match finished in fourth after a medical forfeit in the 3rd-place matchup. 

The Panthers will now have two weeks to recover and prepare for the NCAA Regional Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, February 25th in Ithaca, N.Y.
