Jamestown, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team returned to tournament competition on Sunday as eight wrestlers and one coach wrestled in the Jamestown Open tournament. 7 Panthers were able to pick up victories on the day, led by Cameron Carter-Green, who took 2nd place in the heavyweight class.

Carter-Green only had to wrestle three times on the day but made them count winning the first two before falling in the final round. He started his day in dominating fashion. After receiving an opening round bye, Carter-Green won his quarterfinal match by tech fall, winning 17-2. In the semifinal, he edged his opponent Nick Barret from Alfred State 2-1. Unfortunately, he was unable to come away with the championship as he lost 7-2 in the final round.

Nathan Powley also wrestled in the heavyweight class and picked up two wins. After dropping his opener, Powley won two straight bouts to reach the consolation semifinals. He won his first by a 4-1 decision and then pinned his opponent in 1:37 for his second win.

Colton Geitler wrestled for the Panthers at 174 and picked up three wins. He also lost his opener but battled back to win three in a row. He took down two wrestlers from AMCC foe Alfred State by major decisions, 14-0 and 13-2, and added a 6-1 decision.

Two Panthers wrestled at 165 as D.J. Slovick earned 5.5  points and Kyle Keefe added 5. Slovick started his day with a 7-2 decision victory but was then sent to the consolation bracket after a loss. He was able to pick up a pin at 1:37 before facing off against his teammate, Keefe. Slovick was victorious in the bout with Keefe, winning 17-1 via tech fall. At 157, Eli Hernandez earned a 3-2 win by decision in the 3rd consolation round and HEnry Cummings added a win by forfeit at 149.

Student assistant coach Tyler Newton joined the competition as an unattached wrestler and was able to win the 165-pound weight class. He opened the event in lightning-quick fashion, pinning his opponent in just 16 seconds before picking up a 13-4 major decision victory in the quarterfinal. He faced much stiffer competition in the final two rounds but won 3-1 in the semis and 3-2 to clinch first place in the final.

The Panthers will return to dual meet action on Friday, as they will return to Jamestown for a dual match with the Jayhawks.
