Panther Wrestling Goes 1-2 at Lycoming Duals

Williamsport, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Wrestling team returned to the mat on Saturday as they traveled to Williamsport, Pa. to compete in the Lycoming Duals. The Panthers went 1-2 on the day, defeating Keystone while falling to Lycoming and Oswego State.

Round 1 - Oswego State 33 - Pitt-Bradford 15

The Panthers started their day with a tough dual match against Oswego State. The Panthers fell behind the Lakers early, as Oswego State won the first 5 matches, jumping out to a 25-0 lead. D.J. Slovick was able to get the Panthers on the board at 165, as he pinned his opponent in 1:59 to earn 6 points. The Lakers clinched the team match with 8 points in the next two weight classes, but the Panthers finished strong as they closed the match with two wins. Nate Powley picked up 6 points, pinning his opponent in 1:58 at 197, and Cameron Carter-Green closed proceedings with an 8-4 win by decision in the heavyweight class. 

Round 2 - Pitt-Bradford 37 - Keystone 5

The Panthers battled back in the second match of the event dominating the Keystone Giants 37-5. The Panthers won six of eight contested matches. Pitt-Bradford received an early 6-0 lead as Ja'Shad Bumpers picked up a win by forfeit at 125. After a double forfeit at 133, The Panthers added 8 quick points as Darren Christian Jr. and Henry Cummings each picked up major decision victories. Christian Jr. won 11-2 at 141 and Cummings defeated his opponent 16-4 at 149. The Giants won at 157 but the Panthers clinched the match with 17 straight points. Slovick won by tech fall 22-4 at 165 to start teh rally. Despite trailing in his match, Kyle Keefe was able to earn a win as he pinned his opponent at 3:41 for six more points. Colton Geitler also picked up a pin at 184, winning in 4:58. Carter-Greene closed the match yet again, winning by pin at 4:29.

Round 3 - Lycoming 48 - Pitt-Bradford 4

Pitt-Bradford closed the event with a tough match against the hosts. The Panthers were unable to get their footing in their third match of the day, as they were only able to win one match. Geitler earned his second win of the day, picking up a 20-7 major decision victory at 184.

 

Following the quad match, the Panthers dual record is now 2-5 this season. They will take the next week off for finals, but return to action one more time before the holiday break. On Monday, December 19th, the Pantehrs will wrestle in the Kings Quad match in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The Panthers will take on New Jersey City, Penn College, and the hosts Kings, with action starting at 11:00 a.m.
