Panther Wrestling Secures 14th Place Finish at RIT Invitational

Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team was back on the mats on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Rochester, N.Y. to compete in the R.I.T. Invitational. The Panthers had a balanced day, totaling 25.5 team points to finish in 14th.

Senior Nathan Powley had his strongest day of the season as he was able to collect 6.0 team points while wrestling at 197. He got off to a tough start as he lost his opening match, but battled back with a 7-6 decision in his first consolation match and then picked up a second win by pin at 2:32 in his next match. He added a third win via medical forfeit in the 4th round before seeing his day come to an end with a tough 3-2 decision loss. 

Freshman Cameron Carter-Green also had a good day, gathering 5.5 team points for the Panthers at the 285 weight class. He also dropped his first match of the day before picking up three straight wins in the consolation round. His first win came on a pin after just 15 seconds in the first consolation round and then picked up a second victory on a pin at 1:48 in the second. His third win came by an 8-3 decision before he lost his second match of the day by a 10-5 decision.

Jayden Lassiter was the next highest point earner for Pitt-Bradford as he won 5.0 points at 174. He was able to win his first match of the day with a pin at 6:42 before getting sent to the consolation bracket in the next round. Lassiter picked up back-to-back wins with a 9-2 decision and a 10-1 major decision, before seeing his day end by pin in the 4th round. 

Additionally, 6 other Panthers were able to pick up wins on the day. Colton Gietler had two big wins as he used an 11-1 major decision and an 18-2 tech fall to pick up 4.0 points. He wrestled at 174. At 141, Darren Christian Jr. was able to win his first two matches of the day for four points, before falling in the quarterfinal and 4th consolation round by decision. His first victory was a 6-4 decision and his second was a pin at 2:49. Other Panthers to tally wins were D.J. Slovick at 165 (2.5 points), Raymond Worsen III (2.0 points), while Ja'Shad Bumpers and Henry Cummings each picked up .5 points.

The Panthers will return to action on Thursday, December 8th when they travel to Penn State-Behrend for a dual meet. The action is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
