Panthers Drop Three at Dr. Sam Case Duals

Westminster, Md. -- The Univesity of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed in their first dual matches of the year on Sunday, as they traveled to McDaniel College to wrestle in the Dr. Sam Case Duals. The Panthers lost all three matches of the day falling 15-35 to Wilkes, 6-44 to the hosts, and 6-49 to Johns Hopkins.

The day began with a tough battle with Wilkes. The Panthers were able to strike first, as Ja'Shad Bumpers won by a 10-7 decision at 125. After dropping 3 straight, Eli Hernandez was able to get the Panthers back on track at 157. He pinned his opponent at 3:16 to cut the Wilkes lead to 18-9. Following another Wilkes pin, D.J. Slovick was able to pick up the Panthers' final win of the match at 174 with a pin.

In the Panther's second match of the day, the Panthers wrestled the hosts, McDaniel. The Green Terror proved to be a tough matchup, as they were able to win the first 9 bouts of the match. Cameron Carter-Green was able to pick up the lone victory for Pitt-Bradford. He pinned his opponent in 6:01 in the 285 weight class to close the match.

Pitt-Bradford finished its day with another tough matchup, this time with Johns Hopkins. The Panthers fell behind 10-0 through two matches but were able to pull six points back, as Darren Christian Jr. picked up a win at 141. He was able to pin his opponent at 4:06. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to win any other matches, falling 49-6 to the Bluejays 49-6.

The Panthers are now 0-3 in dual matches after beginning the year with a pair of invitational tournaments. They will return to the mat on Saturday, December 3rd when they wrestle in the RIT Invitational, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
