Worsen III  Finishes 5th for Panthers at W & J Invitational

Washington, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team was back on the mats this Saturday, wrestling at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The Panthers collected 36.0 team points in the event, with Raymond Worsen III earning a podium place with a 5th-place finish at 149.

Worsen started the day off well, pinning his first opponent in 2:18, but his momentum did not last long, as he was pinned in the second round by the eventual 2nd-place finisher in the weight class. In the consolation bracket, Worsen would dominate his opponents, pinning 4 in a row. He pinned his first opponent in the consolation bracket in just 26 seconds, and then pinned his next opponent in 1:36. He earned a place in the 5th place match with a pin in 1:39, and then closed his day with a pin at 3:29 in the placement round.

Three other wrestlers were able to pick up wins for the Panthers. DJ Slovick and Kyle Keefe both fell just one victory short of the placement round at 165. After losing his opening match, Slovick pinned his first opponent in the consolation bracket in 2:16. He then defeated his teammate, Jayden Lassiter, 12-7 and picked up a third victory by forfeit before falling 10-4. Keefe also lost his opening match, and after a bye, picked up a win by pin at 1:27 and a win by forfeit. He fell 14-4 in a major decision to miss out on placement. Finally, Henry Cummings was able to pick up a single victory at 149. After losing his opener, he picked up a 9-3 victory in his first consolation match, before falling by pin to end his day.

The Panthers will take the week to recover before returning to action next Sunday. They will travel to Westminster, Md. to compete in the Green Terror Duals, hosted by McDaniel College. Their opponents and starting times have not been announced.
