Panthers Wrap up Season at Mideast Regionals

Elizabethtown, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team brought its season to a close this weekend as they wrestled in the NCAA Mideast Regionals, held in Elizabethtown, Pa.

The Panthers totaled 10.0 team points on the day as Victor Elias, Tyler Newton and Nate Powley were all able to pick up victories on the day.

Victor Elias collected the most points for the Panthers as he went 2-2 on the day for 4.5 team points. He wrestled at 174. In the Preliminary Round, Elias picked up a victory by major decision as he defeated his opponent 10-1. In the Championship round, he was unable to maintain the momentum as he was defeated 13-1. He picked up a win by injury default in the consolation bracket before falling in a second major decision to end his day.

At 157, Tyler Newton also went 2-2 on the day, totaling 3.0 team points. He won his opening preliminary match with a 12-3 major decision and picked up the Panthers' sole win in the Championship round with an 8-5 decision. Unfortunately, Newton was then matched up against the #2 wrestler in the nation at his weight class, falling by pin at 2:06. He was unable to turn things around in the consolation bracket, as he lost by pin at 0:41 to finish his day.

Nate Poley wrestled at 184 and picked up 2.5 points. Powley lost his opening match by an 8-2 decision but was able to battle back in the consolation round, winning by pin at 4:09. He was unable to pick up any more wins after the pin, as he fell by an 11-7 decision in the next round. 

With the completion of the regional tournament, the Panthers' season comes to an end. They were able to pick up three dual meet victories on the season. The Panthers will graduate 6 team members this spring, many of whom were part of the program's inaugural season in 2018-19.
