Panthers Show Improvement, Drop Two at Brockport Tri Meet

Brockport, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team lost numerous tough individual matches on the way to two losses at the Brockport Tri-match. The Panthers lost to the hosts 45-3 to begin the day and followed that up with a closer 31-10 loss to Oswego State.

Tyler Newton picked up the lone win for the Panthers in the Brockport match. Wresting at 165, Newton earned a 4-3 decision, picking up his second consecutive victory. The Panthers did have some close calls, as three wrestlers lost their matches by 3 points or less. Chase Proudfit lost 7-6 at 197, Eli Hernandez lost a high-scoring bout 10-8 at 149 and Victor Elias lost 3-0 at 174.

The Panthers got off to a better start against Oswego, as they picked up two early victories. Jestin Poruban started the match by picking up a victory by pin at 5:54. Eli Hernandez then picked up a second win of the match, winning by major decision at 149. He defeated his opponent by a score of 10-2. Unfortunately, that was the last match the Panthers would win. Newton lost a tough match 3-2 at 165 and Chase Proudfit closed the match with another tight loss by a score of 8-6.

The Panthers will return to the mat next weekend, as they will travel to Jamestown, N.Y. to wrestle in the Jamestown open on Sunday, January 30th.
