5 Different Panthers Pick Up Wins as Team Finishes in 24th

Washington, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team saw 5 of its wrestlers pick up at least one victory at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. The team totaled 20 points, good for a 24th place finish out of 53.

Nate Powley had the strongest day for the Panthers at 197, as he went 2-2. Powley started the day with a pin at 2:42 but was sent to the consolation bracket in the next match, falling by decision 12-9. In the consolation bracket, Powley picked up his second win of the day, pinning his opponent at 6:01, despite trailing 8-9 at the time of the pin. He lost his final match of the day by major decision 17-8.

Victor Elias and Eli Hernandez also won their first matches of the day for the Panthers but were unable to win after success in their first bout. Wrestling at 165, Hernandez won a close match 3-2 in the opening round. He was unable to continue the success in the next two matches as he fell by decision in both. Elias picked up a victory by pin at 3:58 in his opening bout. He lost a tight 12-9 decision in the next round and lost by major decision once in the consolation bracket.

Jestin Poruban and Chase Proudfit also picked up victories for the Panthers. Proudfit won his second bout of the day by pin at 2:44, while Poruban picked up a 10-6 decision in his second of the day.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend when they wrestle in the Waynesburg Duals. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
