Wrestling Opens Season at McGinley Invitational

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team kicked off their 2021-22 campaign with some tough competition at the Ned McGinley Invitational, hosted by Kings College. The Panthers were only able to muster 2.5 points as they finished in 15th place.

Chase Proudfit had the strongest outing for the Panthers. Wrestling in the heavyweight class, Proudfit went 2-2 on the day. He was able to win his first match 3-0, before being pinned in 2:42 in his second-round bout to move to the consolation bracket. In the consultation bracket, he was matched up against teammate Nate Powley and was able to win 7-3. He lost his next match after being pinned at 1:23.

Victor Elias was able to get a win on the day as well, winning a consolation bracket match at 174. After opening the day with a close 3-2 loss in the competition bracket, Elias won his next match 10-5.

Elijah Hernandez was the only other Panther that was able to pick up a win on the day. He also went 1-2 on the day wrestling at 165. He opened the event with a 3-0 loss and then won his first consolation match 10-4.

The Panthers will be back in action next Saturday when they head to the Washington and Jefferson Invitational with the matches beginning at 9:45 a.m.
