Panthers Wrestle in NCAA Regionals, Dowd Moves on to Day 2

Ithaca, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team took on the best of the region at the NCAA Mideast Regional meet, held in Ithaca, N.Y. Saturday.

Mitch Dowd was the sole Panther to pick up a win in the Championship Rounds. Wrestling at 285, he eked out a 4-3 victory in his opening match. In the Quarterfinal, Dowd lost a tough match by a 3-0 decision but came back with a 5-2 victory in the Consolation round. He picked up 4.5 team points for the Panthers.

Senior Derek Ridgeway was the only other Panther to pick up any points for Pitt-Bradford at 184. He was able to win his preliminary round match, pinning his opponent in 58 seconds. He won 2.5 team points for the Panthers.

Elijah Hernandez was close to picking up a victory, falling 7-6 in his championship round match and 4-2 in the consolation round.

The Panthers totaled 7.0 points on the day and are tied for 16th with Alfred State. Dowd is the only wrestler to advance to the second day of competition. Day 2 is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m on Sunday.
