Wrestling Wins 1, Drops 2 at Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Duals

Williamsport, Pa. -- The The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team competed at the Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Duals event, hosted by Lycoming College on Monday. They picked up a win over King's College, but fell to Cortland and Lycoming to finish the day with a 1-2 record.

The day began with a quick match that finished in a 35-18 loss to Cortland. Derek Ridgeway, Jason Reyes and Mitch Dowd all picked up forfeit wins. Eli Hernandez and Nate Powley each went the distance in their matches, but fell 7-5 and 7-6 respectively.

The Panthers' win came in the second match of the day, against King's. Colton Davis got things started for Pitt-Bradford with a victory by pin at 2:11 at 133. Hernandez followed that up with a sudden death overtime victory at 141. After tying the match late in the 3rd round, Hernandez was able to get a take down and pick up the victory in the sudden death period. In the middleweights, the teams traded forfeit victories and major decisions. Trenton Wills picked up the victory via forfeit at 157 and Derek Ridgeway won 12-4 at 184. After a Kings pin, the score was set at 19, 16 with only one match to go. In the heavyweight bout, Mitch Dowd sealed the victory with a 3-0 win.

The final match of the day saw the Panthers take on the hosts from Lycoming. They were able to tie the Warriors 18-18 in contested matches, but lost 24 points to forfeits to make the final score 24-18. Eli Hernandez picked up his second win of the day with a pin at 3:31 in the 141 weight class. Hernandez had a 16-2 lead at the time of the pin. Derek Ridgeway and Mitch Dowd each picked up victories via the pin to move their records to 3-0 on the day. Ridgeway pinned in 2:30, while Dowd won in 4:39.

This event was the last meet for the Panthers' in the Fall half of their schedule. Their next action will be on Saturday January 4th, 2020. They will wrestle at the Waynesburg Invitational, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
