Wrestling Finishes 13th at W & J Invitational

Washington, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team traveled to Washington, Pa. this weekend to compete in the Washington and Jefferson Invitational. They finished in 13th place as a team and were unable to place any wrestlers in podium positions.

3 different Panthers were able to pick up victories on the day, with each finishing competition with a 2-2 record.

Elijah Hernandez won his first match at 133 by a score of 14-9. He was moved to the elimination bracket after falling in his second match 5-10, and won his first match there 20-12, but fell 7-2 in his second to finish just outside the medal rounds.

Nate Powley wrestled at 165, and also got off to a quick start. He won by pin in his first match at 5:39 and after losing in his second match, pinned his way to a second victory with a time of 1:18.

Mitch Dowd was the only other Panther to pick up a victory on the day. He pinned his opponent at 4:56 in his first match, and picked up a 10-5 win in his second. He was unable to maintain the momentum, as he lost the next two matches to difficult opponents.

Coach Colin Johnston said, "The guys wrestled extremely well today/ There is a lot we still have to work on, but we will get there. I was very proud of their efforts and wrestling today."

The Panthers will return to action on Thursday November 14th. They will host Mercyhurst North East in a dual match beginning at 7:00 p.m. The match will be in KOA Arena.
