Wrestling Begins Season with 6th Place Finish at Adrian Invitational

Adrian, Mi. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford wrestling team finished in 6th place out of 12 teams in the season opening Adrian Invitational. They finished with 46.5 total points.

Individually, 4 Panthers picked up honors. Mitch Dowd finished in 3rd place in the heavyweight division. He went 5-1 on the day to pick up 17.5 points. Eli Hernandez finished 4th at 133. He finished the invitational with a 3-2 record on the day and won 12 team points. Nate Powley and Derek Ridgeway both took 7th place in their weight classes. Powley went 3-2 and scored 10.5 points at 165. Ridgeway went 2-2 and added 6.5 team points at 197.

About his team's performance, head coach Colin Johnston said, "The guys did great today and I'm impressed with every guy that wrestled. This was a tough tournament and a great start to the season. We rose to the occasion and did extremely well."

The wrestling team will open their home season on Thursday. They will host Jamestown Community College at 6:00 PM in the Tom L. McDowell Field House.
