Panthers Fall in 1st Round of AMCC Tourney

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team saw its season come to an end on Friday morning, as they fell to #5 New Jersey City 2-0 in a best-of-three series at the AMCC Championship Tournament.

The three match format of the AMCC Championships saw the Panthers bowl against the Gothic Knights in Traditional and Baker formats with winners decided by total pinfall, and a final tie breaker of a best of seven baker series if it is needed. The Panthers were not able to keep up with New Jersey City, who posted strong scores in both formats to advance to the next round.

The Panthers day started with an 800-942 loss in the traditional format. Sarah Newland paced the Panthers with a score of 189, while Ekaterina Wilson had the second best score for Pitt-Bradford at 168. Olivia Shultz and Brookelyn Garvey both finished at 161, while Alexis Whitfield rounded out the scoring at 128.

Needing a win in Baker bowling to extend their season, the Panthers were once again outpaced byt he Gothic Knights, losing the second game 749-866. Pitt-Bradford fell behind early, as New Jersey City took game one 150-191 and 156-181. The Panthers won the next two games, but they were only by small margins, taking game three 167-165 and game four 152-148. The Panthers needed to win the final game by at least 61 points, but could not finish the comeback, fallling 124-181.

Senior Ekaterina Wilson was named to the All-Tournament team. Along with her score of 168 in traditional, Wilson averaged 18.0 pins per frame in Baker. 

The Panthers finish their season with a 28-52 overall record and a 13-7 AMCC record.
