Panthers Take 1 of 3 Against Nationally Ranked Medaille

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday afternoon, winning one of three matches against nationally-ranked Medaille.

The teams bowled the first match in the traditional format, and then the second two in Baker format with the winner decided by total pinfall over 5 games. The Panthers edged the Mavericks in the traditional matchup, winning 850-844, and then fell in the two Baker matches, 815-925 and 780-931.

The Panthers had a balanced scoring performance in the traditional matchup, as all five bowlers posted scores over 150. Sarah Newland led the way, finishing at 193. Brookelyn Garvey was next at 177, with senior Ekaterina Wilson putting in a strong Senior Day performance at 170. Alexis Whitfield bowled a 156 and Olivia Schultz rounded out the scoring at 154.

The Panthers were able to post strong scores in the Baker rounds but were unable to keep up with MEdaille who bowled well over 900 in both matches. The Panthers took an early lead in match 1, winning the first game 181-169, but quickly fell behind the Mavericks who won the next two games handily. Pitt-Bradford won a second time in the fourth game of the match, winning 198-191, before dropping the final game 135-160.

Match two saw the Panthers take a small lead after winning game two 183-134, but could not keep pace over the last three games, losing the match.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend as they begin the AMCC Championship tournament on Friday, March 24th. In the AMCC Round Robin events, the Panthers went 13-7, securing the 4th seed in the tournament. They will begin the postseason by taking on 5th-seeded New Jersey City in the first round. Action begins at 10:00 a.m. at Pines Plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh.
