Panthers Finish 7th at Brunswick Classic

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Bowling team wrapped up the Brunswick Classic on Sunday, finishing 7th overall.

Say two of the event contained three final round-robin slots, with teams competing in the Baker format with the winner decided by 5-game total pinfall. After the round-robin was completed, placement rounds used the BAker format with the winner decided over a best-of-seven games match.

The Panthers got off to a rough start, as they fell 687-846. The Panthers were able to win game one 153-134, but fell behind after game two, falling 122-182. Their deficit grew after game three as the Panthers struggled to keep up with Roberts Wesleyan, who took the game 220-115. The Panthers pulled some pins back with a 173-155 win in game four but lost the final game 154-124.

The Panthers were able to improve their score in the second match, but could not keep up with Mercyhurst, who won the match 782-896. The Panthers once again won the first game 150-149 but found themselves behind after losing the next two matches 166-234 and 138-191. The Panthers exploded in game four, winning 211-155, but were unable to maintain their momentum in the final game, falling 117-167.

In the placement round, the Panthers took on AMCC foe Hilbert but were unable to keep up early, losing the match 1-4. The Panthers lost the first three games of the match, dropping game one 152-169, game two 148-156, and game three 146-184. They battled back with a 185-127 win in game four but saw the match come to a close with a 140-161 loss in game 5.

After a busy month of February, the Panthers will have two weeks to recharge. They will return to action on Saturday, March 11th, when they bowl in the Hawk Classic, hosted by Hilbert.
