Panthers Face Tough Competition on Day 1 of Brunswick Classic

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team had a rough draw on the first day of the Brunswick Classic, hosted by Medaille. They went 1-3 on the day while bowling against three nationally ranked teams.

The Panthers began their day against the hosts, falling 816-904. Ekaterina Wilson had one of the best competitive games of her career, posting a score of 201. Sarah Newland finished 2nd for the Panthers at 166, and Brookelyn Garvey was just behind her at 165.

In match two, the Panthers took on fellow AMCC foe Hilbert, winning 759-741. Wilson once again paced the Panthers, finishing at 170. Newland bowled a 155, while Olivia Shultz was a pin off at 154 and garvey was 4th at 153.

Pitt-Bradford took on D'Youville next, falling 760-888. Wilson bowled a 184 to lead the Panthers for the third straight game. Garvey finished at 158, while Shultz was just behind her at 156.

The Panthers finished their day with a tough loss to Mount St. Mary, falling 753-1026. Garvey led the Panthers at 175, while Newland was next at 167. Alexis Whitfield finished third for the Panthers with a score of 145 and Olivia Shultz was just behind her at 144. 

Unfortunately, the Panthers saved their best score for their bye in the 5th match slot. As a team, they bowled an 892. Three Panthers bowled higher than 180, as Wilson led the way at 189. Garvey was just behind her at 185, and Newland bowled a 180. Shultz and Whitfield were not far off, both finishing at 169.

Ekaterina Wilson had the Panthers' best average at 173.20, putting her in 22nd place. Brookelyn Garvey was 5 sots behind her at 27 with an average of 167.20. Sarah Newland finished 32nd at 162.20 pins per match, while Olivia Shultz finished the day in 38th at 153.20 and Alexis Whitfield was 42nd at 140.2.

The Panthers will have one more day in the competition. They will be back on the lanes at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
