Bowling Secures 4 Seed in AMCC Championships

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team finished their 3rd day of competition at the AAMCC Round-Robin with a 3-2 record, putting them in 4th place for the AMCC Championship Tournament.

The Panthers started their day with a clutch 825-749 comeback victory over New Jersey City. The Panthers battled the Gothic Knights early but lost the first three games of the match by a total of 18 pins. They pushed into the lead in game 4, winning 189-148 before clinching the victory with a 191-138 win. 

They were not able to maintain the momentum in the second match, as they lost a tight match to Medaille 790-836. After losing game one 148-158, the Panthers took a slight lead after game three winning the second game 180-177 and the third 166-155. The Mavericks retook the lead after game 4 as the Panthers fell 150-164. Trailing by 4 pins, the Panthers were unable to pull through in the 5th game, falling 145-182 to lose the match.

Match three saw the Panthers fall to Penn State-Behrend 801-868. The Panthers won the first game 135-115 and then lost a high-scoring battle in game two 191-198. They came back with a 174-171 win in game three but fell behind in game 4 as the Lions won 196-146. The final game saw the opponents increase their final pinfall margin, as the Panthers lost 155-188.

The Panthers were able to get back in the win column in their fourth match of the day, defeating LaRoche 804-763. The Panthers won a tight game one 164-163 but fell behind the Redhawks after losing game two 145-150. They took a commanding lead after game three, winning 194-134, but saw their advantage cut in half after losing game 4 153-190. They were able to pull out the victory after winning game 5 148-126.

To close the event, the Panthers took on Pitt-Greensburg. Despite recording their lowest pinfall of the day, they were able to win the match 767-725. Pitt-Bradford fell behind early, losing game one 169-181- but jumped in front after dominating game two 177-118. They increased their lead with a 144-120 win in game three but saw their lead cut to 18 after the Bobcats took game four 124-192. The Panthers were once again able to settle down and outperform their opponents in the deciding fifth game, winning 153-114 to secure the win.

The Panthers finished the 10-match round-robin with a 7-3 record, improving their conference record to 13-7. They moved up one spot in the conference standings, securing the 4th seed in the AMCC Championship next month. The Panthers will be back in action next Saturday, as they will head back to Buffalo to compete in the Medaille Brunswick Classic.
