Panthers Finish 3rd at Br. Lacey Tourney, Garvey Named to All-Tournament Team

Latrobe, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Bowling team traveled to Latrobe, Pa. to compete in the annual Brother Pat Lacey Memorial Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent. Despite posting a 1-4 record, the Panthers had a high pinfall for the event, giving them a third-place finish. Brookelyn Garvey posted the third-highest average at the event, placing her on the All-Tournament Team.

The Panthers got off to a tough start, falling to Pitt-Greensburg 748-773. Garvey led the team with a score of 168, while Ekaterina Wilson was just behind her at 163. Sarah Newland posted a score of 150, while Olivia Shultz finished at 146 and Alexis Whitfield rounded up the scoring at 131. 

in their second match of the day, The Panthers increased their scoring but were overcome by the hosts, falling 806-896. Garvey once again led the team with a score of 186, while Olivia Shultz had the next-best score at 167. Sarah Newland finished at 159 and Saeah Whitfield posted a score of 153. 

The Panthers continued to run into high-scoring teams in their third match, as despite posting a solid score of 804, lost to Daemen, who finished at 903. Wilson exploded to lead the Panthers with a score of 200, while Garvey continued to impress, posting a 194. Shultz posted another strong score, finishing at 162. 

Pitt-Bradford finished qualifying rounds with a matchup against Penn State-Behrend The Panthers had another strong performance, but fell short, losing to the Lions 790-859. Wilson led the Panthers for the second straight game, bowling a 185, while Newland posted the second-best score at 175. Garvey finished just behind her at 171. 

The Panthers were unable to emerge victorious through the first four matches, but posted high scores, placing them in the 3rd/4th place matchup in the final match of the day. The Panthers had a rematch with Penn State-Behrend, and bowled their best match of the day, winning 840-774. Garvey saved her best game of the day for the placement round, finishing with a score of 217. Sarah Newland also had her best performance in the final match, posting a score of 201. Olivia Shultz bowled a 171 in the match.

For the event, Garvey averaged 187.20 pins per game, which was the 3rd best average of the day. Her total pinfall was 936 for the event. This earned her All-Tournament honors. Ekaterina Wilson and Sarah Newland both finished in the top 10 in total pinfall. Wilson finished 8th with a pinfall of 825, while Newland was 10th at 821. Olivia Shultz finished with the 17th-best pinfall at 771, while Alexis Whitfield rounded out the scoring at 635. 

The Panthers will now prepare for their second AMCC Round Robin of the season, originally scheduled for November, next weekend's Round Robin was postponed due to inclement weather in Buffalo, the host location for the event. The round-robin will see the Panthers bowl against all AMCC opponents, using the Baker bowling format. It will begin on Friday in Buffalo.
