Panthers Take 4 on Day Two of AMCC Round Robin

Greensburg, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team jumped up to 5th place in the AMCC standings after winning 4 of 5 matches on Day Two of the AMCC Round Robin.

The Panthers breezed to victory in their first three matches of the day, defeating Penn State-Altoona, LaRoche, and Pitt-Greensburg. After a bye, they were unable to find their form in the 4th match, falling to Mount Aloysius. They were able to come back and close the event with a tight win over New Jersey City.

In the first match of the day, the Panthers used three high scores to defeat Penn State-Altoona 802-697. Brookelyn Garvey went over 200 for the 2nd time in as many days, posting a score of 215. Sarah Newland had a strong match in the anchor position, finishing at 188, and Olivia Shultz rolled a 163. 

The Panthers were not as strong in their second match of the day but were still able to defeat LaRoche by 77 pins with a final score of 785-708. Garvey once again posted the Panthers' high score, finishing at 197, while Ekaterina Wilson posted a 189.

Pitt-Bradford continued to rill as they moved into match three, defeating the hosts of the event, Pitt-Greensburg, 810-699. Four Panthers posted scores above 160, led by another strong Garvey performance, who had a 189. Sarah Newland was 2nd at 179, Wilson followed up on her strong 2nd match with a score of 176, and Alexis Whitfield rolled a 164.

The Panthers lost what momentum they had after a bye in the 4th. In their next match, they fell to Mount Aloysius 656-712. All five bowlers scored under their average for the day, led by a 157 from Garvey.

Despite a tough 4th match, the Panthers came back strong in their last match of the event, eking out an 818-796 win over New Jersey City. Whitfield posted the highest score of the match, finishing at 179, while Newland was just behind her at 172.

Brookelyn Garvey finished the round-robin with a 185.20 pin per match average, the 3rd best in the competition. She was just .20 pins off of 2nd place. Sarah Newland averaged 163.00 pins, putting her in a tie for 29th. Ekaterina Wilson (43), Alexis Whitfield (47), and Olivia Shultz (49) all made the top 50. Wilson averaged a score of 150.70, while Whitfield finished at 137.25 and Shultz rounded out the scoring averages at 137.10.

The Panthers are 6-4 in conference play, and in 5th place in the AMCC Standings. They will be back on the lanes next Saturday, when they Travel to Latrobe, Pa. to bowl in the Brother Lacy Tournament, hosted by Saint Vincent.
