Panthers in 7th After Day 2 at Red Flash Invitational

Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team posted a 1-4 record on their 2nd day at the Red Flash Invitational, putting them in 7th place as the tournament heads into Sunday's placement rounds.

The Panthers bowled 5 Baker matches with the winner decided by the highest total pinfall over the five matches.

Pitt-Bradford started their day against fellow AMCC member Mount Aloysius. They were able to pick up a win to start their day, winning 739-644. They jumped out to an early lead, as they won the first game 130-88. After tying the Mounties 162-162 in the second game, they added to their lead in game 3, winning 159-111. The Panthers saw their lead decrease with a loss in the fourth game, but closed strong, winning game 5 164-132.

They followed up the win with a rematch, facing the Mounties once more for their second match of the day. The Mounties started much stronger in the second match, taking the first two games. The Panthers cut into the lead with a 134-118 win in game 3 but were unable to complete the comeback, as they lost game 4 by 5 pins and won the closer by 3.

The Panthers closed the day with three matches against three Division I opponents. They were able to improve, and record high scores, but could not keep up with their opponents. They started off against Wagner. They were only 3 pins down after game one but saw the Seahawks jump out to a large lead with a 63-point win in game 2 and a 17-point win in game 3. The Panthers closed the match by winning games 4 and 5, but could not make up the early pin differential. They took game 4 172-134 and game 5 146-142.

Pitt-Bradford took on the hosts, Saint Francis, in their fourth match of the day. The Panthers posted their highest score of the day, a 783, but the hosts were able to average 185.6 pins per game to earn the win.

The Panthers closed the day against Duquesne. They once again finished with a score of 783, but could not keep up with their opponents, who finished at 912. They were able to win one of the games, taking the fourth 175-155.

Individually, Brookelyn Garvey led the Panthers out of the anchor spot. She averaged 18.64 pins per frame. Sarah Newland was the Panthers' second-best finisher, averaging 15.48 pins per frame. ThThey e remaining three bowlers for the Panthers all averaged more than 13 pins per frame. Ekaterina Wilson finished at 13.72 pins per frame, Alexis Whitfield averaged 13.34 pins and Olivia Shultz rounded out the scoring at 13.32 pins per frame.

The Panthers will move into the placement rounds of the tournament in 7th place. They will begin their day with another matchup with Mount Aloysius, before moving on in the bracket. They will bowl three matches, with a chance to place between 5th and 9th place. The matches will be in the Baker format with the winner decided by the best out of seven games. The action will begin at 8:55 a.m.
