Panthers Swept in 2023 Debut

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team returned to the lanes for the first time this semester, as they were swept in three traditional matches by Penn State-Behrend.

The Panthers started their day with a nailbiter as they fell just short against the Lions, losing by 1 pin, 729-728. Ekaterina Wilson led the Panthers with a score of 165, while Brookelyn Garvey was just behind her at 161. Olivia Shultz led with a score of 148, while Sarah Newland posted a 135 and Alexis Whitfield added 119.

The Panthers fell off in the second match, as they were only able to muster a score of 697, while their opponents posted a score of 777. Brookelyn Garvey rolled a 164 in the game, while Sarah Newland was just behind at 159. Olivia Shultz had a score of 144 in the match.

Match three saw the Panthers post their best score of the day, as they rolled a 777, but their opponents also had a strong match, winning 841-777. Alexis Whitfield exploded for a score of 177, while Olivia Shultz added 20 pins to her average on the day with a score of 165. Sarah Newland finished the day with a 158, While Brookelyn Garvey had a score of 153.

On the Day, Garvey led the Panthers with 478 pins for an average of 159.3 pins per game. Shultz was 2nd on the team with an average of 152.3, while Newland was just behind her at 150.6. Alexis Whitfield's strong game-three performance gave her an average of 136.3, while Wilson finished with an average of 135.3.

The Panthers will travel to Altoona next weekend where they will compete in the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by St. Francis University. The event is two days and will span approximately 10 matches over two days.
