Panthers Take 1 of 3 at Penn State Behrend

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team returned to the lanes on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Erie, Pa. for three traditional-style matches against Penn-State Behrend. The Panthers lost the first two matches but battled back with their best score of the day to win the finale.

The Panthers got off to a slow start, as they were only able to muster a pinfall of 736 in their opening match. Their opponents started much better, posting their best score of the day to win the match 838-736. Brookelyn Garvey posted a 180 in the game, while Sarah Newland and Olivia Shultz both rolled 155s.

The Panthers slightly improved in match two, but not enough to catch the Lions, falling 794-828. Garvey paced the Panthers yet again, finishing with a score of 192. Shultz posted a score of 173 in the game.

Pitt-Bradford saved the best for last, as they posted their best score of the day, 869 pins to salvage the trip with a closing victory. They outscored the lions 869-799 to secure the victory. Newland had the high game of the match, bowling a 212. Garvey was just behind her at 210, while Ekaterina Wilson also had her best game of the day, finishing at 182. 

For the three-match stretch, Brookelyn Garvey had her best day of the season, averaging 194. pins per match. Sarah Newland also had a strong day, as she averaged 171.3 pins. Ekaterina Wilson finished with an average of 158.0. and Olivia Shultz was just behind her at 156.3. Alexis Whitfield closed the scoring with an average of 120.0 for the day.

The Panthers brought the first half of their season to a close. They will kick off their spring campaign on Saturday, January 21st, as they will host Penn State-Behrend at Billye Lanes in Bradford.
