Panthers Finish 9th at Medaille Brunswick Invite

Buffalo, N.Y.  -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team finished their trip to the Medaille Brunswick Invite on Sunday, going 2-3 on the day to secure a 9th place finish.

The day consisted of 3 round-robin matches in Baker bowling format with total pinfall as the determining factor., and then two placement matches in a Baker, best of 7 format. The Panthers dropped their first three matches of the day, then came back to secure 2 victories to take 9th place. 

The Panthers started their day with a match against Mercyhurst. They fell behind early as Mercyhurst outscored the Panthers 374-226 through two games. The Panthers were able to win game three 183-161 but dropped the final two games to lose the match 691-899.

They took on Bryant in their second match of the day, falling 667-856. The Panthers lost all five games in the match, recording a high game of 156.

Pitt-Bradford closed round-robin play with their best match of the day but still fell to D'Youville 778-878. Despite having their highest game average of the day, the Panthers were unable to keep up with the Saints who won all five individual games.

Following the completion of pool play, The Panthers faced fellow AMCC member Hilbert in a pair of best-of-7 Baker matches to determine 9th and 10th place. The Panthers edged the Hawks in the first match 4-3 and then swept them 4-0 in the second.

In match one, the Panthers won game one 151-108 but saw their opponents post a 198 in game two to tie things up. Pitt-Bradford eased their way to a 171-133 victory in game 3 and 162-118 in game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. The Panthers struggled in their first opportunity to close the match, falling in game five 125-167. They nearly secured victory in game 6 but lost by just four pins, 151-155, to force a deciding 7th game. In the decider, the Panthers were able to edge the Hawks 155-146.

The second match was much easier for the Panthers, as they breezed to a 4-0 victory. They won game one 142-133 and then breezed past Hilbert in game two 168-110. The Panthers put the match in a stranglehold with a 169-137 win in game three, and then closed it out with a 161-153 win in game 4.

The Panthers will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Altoona, Pa. to compete in the Unicorn Invitational.
