Panthers Start Season at Daemen Fall Classic

Lancaster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford bowling team began its 2022-23 campaign on Saturday, competing at the Daemen Fall Classic. The Panthers bowled 5 traditional games on day 1, posting a 1-4 record.

The Panthers got off to a good start, as they defeated Penn State-Behrend 780-697 in the first match of the day. They could not maintain the momentum in match two, as they struggled to score and lost to Hilbert 678-754. They bowled better in game three, posting a score of 752, but were outdone by Walsh who posted an 868. Match four saw the Panthers continue to improve, but fell to Saint Vincent 794-883. They rolled their best match of the day in game 5 but were barely outdone by Medaille, who won the match 813-816.

Brookelyn Garvey led the Panthers on the day with a scoring average of 181.40 pins per game. She had the 8th-best average of the event. Sarah Newland averaged 168.00 pins per match to finish as the Panther's second-best scorer. Alexis Whitfield posted a 140.60 in her collegiate debut, while Ekaterina Wilson and Olivia Shultz rounded out the scoring for the Panthers each finishing with averages of 136.80.

The Panthers will return to action for day 2 tomorrow. The event will move to the Baker bowling format, as the Panthers will play 4 more round-robin matches and a final positioning round. Action will resume at 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning.
