Pitt-Bradford Qualifies For AMCC Championship Tournament

On March 3, Pitt-Bradford competed in the final AMCC Round Robin to decide the final conference standings.

The Panthers finished the event 4-3 to improve to 7-7 overall in conference play and secure the fourth and final spot in the double-elimination conference tournament.

Medaille went 6-1 and captured the win in the event to secure the No. 1 seed (13-1).

Mount Aloysius tied with Medaille at 6-1 but lost a tiebreaker to finish second. The Mounties will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament after going 11-3 overall in AMCC action this season.

After a 5-2 performance this weekend to finish 11-3 overall, Saint Vincent will join Medaille, Mount Aloysius and Pitt-Bradford in the AMCC Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

Saturday, Pitt-Bradford went 2-2, falling to Medaille (911-711), defeating Saint Vincent (751-746), beating Penn State-Altoona (696-628) and falling to New Jersey City (838-728).

Then on Sunday, the Panthers went 2-1, defeating Penn State-Behrend (764-645), earned a win against Hilbert in the 'bye' position (705 toward total pinfall) and narrowly fell to Mount Aloysius with a hefty score (839-832).

Kelsey Hammons put up the Panthers' team-high on Saturday with a lofty 198 during game four. She also rolled a 188 in the opening contest.

Saturday, Bryce Holm rolled a 181 during game two to aid the Panthers' efforts.

Then on Sunday, Abbie Buerkle rolled a 193 to power the Panthers' 832 effort against Mount Aloysius.

Pitt-Bradford had its championship run cut short in the second round, first falling to Medaille before being eliminated by Saint Vincent.

Hammons Earns All-AMCC First Team Honors

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Sophomore Kelsey Hammons of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team has been named to the All-AMCC First Team for her performance during the 2018-19 season.

"Well deserved honor for Kelsey," Head Coach Gregg Hoover said. "She bowled well for us all year. Happy to see the other AMCC coaches notice her skill and passion for the sport."

The Manheim, Pa., native finished the season with the AMCC's 14th best overall scoring average at 17.004 pins per frame.

Hammons also averaged 17.352 pins per frame in baker scoring, the eighth-best average in the AMCC.

As the Panthers' anchor, she helped guide the team to a 7-7 AMCC record and qualify for the conference championship tournament.

In the AMCC Tournament, Hammons was the team's top performer in traditional scoring, averaging 174.5 pins per game. On the second day, she led the Panthers with a score of 159.

For her performance during the AMCC Championships, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Pitt-Bradford finished the season 20-23 overall and fourth out of the eight AMCC teams, grabbing the final tournament spot. 

After a pair of competitive matches, Pitt-Bradford's tournament run came to a close in the Second Round.
