ALTOONA, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's bowling team picked up three wins in its four baker matches during Saturday's day one action in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Match hosted by Penn State-Altoona, finishing the day in third place.
"The ladies stuck with it, despite some bad breaks on the lanes," Head Coach Sarah Foley said. "The girls showed great enthusiasm on the lanes, as it was never quiet all day. Kelsey led us all day with the top baker average, and Megan came through many times today when we needed a strike. Jenna was our lead off bowler all day, and she did extremely well to get things started and keep our momentum rolling."
Pitt-Bradford earned a victory in the bye position before defeating Penn State-Altoona (711-633) and Penn State-Behrend (669-592) in the baker style format.
In the win over Altoona, the Lions topped the Panthers in game one, but Pitt-Bradford stepped up and won the next four games to take the victory.
Against Behrend, the Panthers and Lions split the first two games but then, once again, Pitt-Bradford won the remaining games to complete the victory.
At the conclusion of the first day, Medaille and Mount Aloysius sit tied atop the standings, earning wins in their four matches.
Pitt-Bradford sits in third place, tied with Hilbert with a 3-1 record but holding the advantage in pin fall at 2,865 pins.
Mount Aloysius topped the Panthers (807-732) to round out Pitt-Bradford's four games.
Kelsey Hammons led the Panthers in the day's events, posting a 16.85 baker average. Haley Ward had the next highest at 15.82.
Also, Megan Stinnard averaged 13.73 pins, while Jenna Lofaro posted a 12.55 average. Abbey Kalin rounded out the Panther performers with a 12.13 baker average.
The second part of the two-day AMCC Match will take place Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. The Panthers will face Medaille, New Jersey City and Hilbert.
"Our conference showed great competition today, and I'm excited to see how we do tomorrow against Medaille, which quite possibly could be the top team in our conference right now," Foley concluded.
