Panthers Fall on the Road to Lions

Erie, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball played their final road contest of the season on Saturday, falling to Penn State-Behrend 89-37.

  • The Panthers fell behind early as the hosts were able to score the first four points of the game before Ashley Hall made a putback layup to get the Panthers on the board. The Lions added to their lead over the next four minutes as they held Pitt-Bradford to just a Cassidy King jump shot while building a 9 point advantage. Cailey Barnett made a three to slow the Lion attack but quickly saw it answered with back-to-back Penn State-Behrend buckets. The Panthers were able to get the lead back to five points, as Cassidy King made another midrange Jumper and Ashley Hall sank a corner three, but the hosts were able to score in the final seconds of the quarter to take a 19-12 lead into the 2nd.
  • The Lions were able to continue their run in the second, as they scored six points in a 70-second span to quickly extend their lead to 13. Hall once again got the Panthers on the board with a jump shot but saw it followed by 11 in a row from the hosts. Alexa Ackerman, Hall, and Barnett each added threes in the closing stages of the half but were unable to cut into the deficit as Penn State-Behrend took a 24 point lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Panther offensive woes continued in the second half, as they were only able to muster 6 points in each of the 3rd and 4th quarters. Daizjah Brown and Cassidy King got Pitt-Bradford off to a good start in the 3rd, each scoring with a mid-range jumper in the first 2 minutes of the half, however, the Panthers were only able to add a Cailey Barnett layup with 4:17 left in the quarter as they headed to the 4th trailing 69-31.
  • The Rally continued for Penn State-Behrend in the 4th, as they scored the first 8 points of the period until Barnett got back on the board using a putback layup with 5:26 remaining. Hall and King each added a layup in the final 5 minutes of play, as the Panthers continued to find their rhythm in the closing stages of the contest.

Ashley Hall led the Panthers with 12 points on the day. She also grabbed 8 rebounds, including 4 on the offensive end. Cassidy King and Cailey Barnett both scored 10 points, as King also led the team with 9 rebounds.

The Panthers are now 3-19 on the season with a 1-13 record in AMCC play. They will return to KOA Arena on Monday for a matchup with LaRoche, which was originally postponed on December 5th. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
