Women's Basketball Set to Tip Off 2019-20 Season

Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team will begin their 2019-20 season over the weekend. Looking to earn their 10th consecutive trip to the post-season, the Panthers were selected to finish 5th in the annual AMCC Coaches Pre-Season Poll.

A familiar face will take the helm for Pitt-Bradford this season, as 2017 alum Kaserra Owens has taken the reins as interim head coach. Owens was a four year starter for the Panthers between 2013 and 2017. The Bradford native played in 97 games in her Panther career, and was a 2nd team All-AMCC Selection in her junior season. Owens served as an Assistant Coach under Sharay Hall last season.

On the floor, the Panthers will look to their 3 returning seniors and 2018-19 All-AMCC 3rd Team performing junior to lead a young squad that contains 7 freshman, 1 sophomore and 1 new junior.

Junior Guard Shaelyn Snipes was named to the All-AMCC third team for her performance as a sophomore. Snipes averaged 14 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, which was the 10th best average in the conference.

Senior Shirleah Ragin averaged 9.68 points per game, and made her presence known on the defensive end. She finished the year with 2.3 steals per game, the 5th best in the AMCC.

Underneath, the Panthers will look for increased production from Lyric Collins and Jenna Hicks. The pair will see increased roles following the graduations of 1st team All-Conference forward Jennifer Isenberg and 2nd leading rebounder Etreece Adams.

The Panthers season begins away from home as they will travel to Fredonia State on Saturday for the season opening tilt against the Blue Devils. The game will begin at 6:00 p.m. Live statistics and video links will be available on the Women's Basketball Schedule page on the Pitt-Bradford Athletics website.

They will return home to play in the KOA Arena on Saturday November 23rd, against John Carroll.
